There were 660 demonstrations held around the country on Saturday, including one in Downtown Reno on Locomotion Plaza. The marches were held to protest the increasing state restrictions on abortion and advocated for maintaining a constitutional right to the procedure.
This follows the new Texas law that went into effect last month that bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, which is before most women know they are pregnant yet, and before 85% - 90% of all abortions are statistically performed.
The new Texas law even relies on regular citizens to enforce the ban, offering a reward of $10,000 if they successfully sue anyone who helped provide the newly illegal abortions. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.
The protests also occurred just prior to the now 6-3 majority conservative Supreme Court reconvening with a plan to consider a Mississippi case that could enable them to overturn abortion rights established in the 1973 Roe v. Wade case.
